St. Olaf ties in to national 'Walk/Bike to Work' week

In keeping with St. Olaf's mission and various "green" initiatives, the college is sponsoring a week-long "Walk/Bike to Work" event May 12-16. The week, which coincides with National Walk/Bike to Work Week, will culminate with a celebration in Buntrock Commons' Crossroads on Friday, May 16, 8-10 a.m.

As the name implies, the event encourages St. Olaf students and employees to walk or bike to campus all week. People who complete the challenge will be rewarded with refreshments and special stickers during the celebration.

The idea for the event came from two St. Olaf employees who also are members of the City of Northfield's Non-Motorized Task Force: Kirsten Cahoon '98 and John Stull. The City of Northfield, Carleton College, Re-New Northfield, Malt-O-Meal and Northfield Public Schools also are promoting the event.
