Video News: Students design whimsical machine for national competition

On Saturday, March 28, a team of a dozen St. Olaf students will compete in the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest hosted by Purdue University. It's the first team the college has sent to the annual competition.

Inspired by the late cartoonist and his drawings of complicated machines that accomplish simple tasks, this year's goal is to replace -- in 239 steps -- an incandescent light bulb with a more energy-efficient design.
