Elizabeth Nabel '74 named president of two Boston hospitals

Elizabeth Nabel '74 has been named president of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Faulkner Hospital in Boston. Nabel, who will be joining the St. Olaf Board of Regents, currently is director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health. She will assume her new post Jan. 1.

Nabel completed her internship and residency in internal medicine and a clinical and research fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at BWH and Harvard University (BWH is a teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School). She later became known for her research in the fields of vascular biology and molecular cardiology, and for her gene transfer studies of the cardiovascular system.
