Jun Qian, assistant professor of music/clarinet at St. Olaf, recently performed Karl Maria von Weber's Concerto No. 1 with the Pueblo Symphony Orchestra. "With considerable animation, Qian went from the haunting depths of the lower register to unbelievable highs in showing his mastery of the clarinet," wrote the Pueblo Chieftain's music critic. The performance raised money for child obesity research.

While in Colorado, Qian also gave a private recital that raised $3,500 for the local orchestra organization and conducted a master class for the local school district.

This summer Qian will teach a master class at Tung-hai University in Taiwan, where he also will premiere a new composition for clarinet and piano that he commissioned last year by Taiwanese composer Mei-chun Chen.
