Andrew Watt '11 won first prize and Jennifer Easler '10 received honorable mention in the 2010 Associated Colleges of the Midwest Nick Adams Short Story Contest. Chosen from 43 other short story entries, Watt's first place finish with "Hangmen" included a $1,000 cash prize.

"Hangmen" and Easler's "Breaks" were narrowed down to a field of six finalists that were then judged by award-winning author and journalist Alex Kotlowitz. Kotlowitz praised Watt's work as a "gripping tale" using "spare and vivid prose," and lauded "Breaks" as "intimate and true."
