Pamela Gorman (center), community relations manager for Xcel Energy, presents $5,000 for this summer's Physics and Engineering Camp for Girls to Teresa Lebens, director of internal conferences at St. Olaf, and Professor of Phyics Jason Engbrecht. In the background is the 2010 St. Olaf Rube Goldberg Machine on display in Regents Hall.

St. Olaf has received grants from the AAUW and the Xcel Energy Foundation that will provide financial aid to high school students attending the Physics and Engineering Camp for Girls this summer. The AAUW, an organization that promotes equal opportunities for women, has donated $6,680 to cover room and board expenses for campers. The Xcel Energy Foundation has given $5,000 to fund camp scholarships.

As the newest of seven summer camps hosted by the college, the physics camp, led by St. Olaf physics faculty members Jason Engbrecht and David Nitz '73, will focus on instruction, experimentation, and career exploration for girls.
