Upholding a 30-year tradition, St. Olaf students once again earned top honors at a national contest for students belonging to Eta Sigma Phi, the classics honor society for college and university students.

Emily Sandquist '13, a classics major from Singapore, earned first prize in the 2009-10 Maurine Dallas Watkins Translation Contests held in Blacksburg, Va. She earned the honor in the Intermediate Latin Translation Contest.

Jennifer Easler ’10, a classics, medieval studies, and English major from Fredericksburg, Va., earned an honorable mention in the Latin Prose Composition Contest, and Jennifer Stanull ’11, a classics major from Eagan, earned an honorable mention for the Intermediate Latin Translation Contest.

St. Olaf College has the best record of any school in the country at these contests, with at least one winner every year since 1980. The winners receive monetary awards as well as national recognition.
