St. Olaf Assistant Professor of Music Jun Qian recently performed a clarinet concert at Shanghai Times Square in China.

For the performance, Qian played Bela Kovacs' Hommage a M. de Falla, Mozart’s Quintets for Clarinet and Strings, and Weber’s Quintet for Clarinet and String Quartet.

Qian also traveled to Taiwan, playing a solo recital with pianist Joanne Hsu and leading a master class for students at the Tunghai University International Music Festival. During his residency in Taiwan he also commissioned and premiered Suite Antiqua, a new piece for clarinet and piano by renowned Taiwanese composer Mei-chun Chen.
