A 'Bandtastic' faculty member
August 3, 2010
Graydon Royce from the Star Tribune recently interviewed St. Olaf Associate Professor of Music Paul Niemisto about Northfield's upcoming Vintage Band Festival that will feature 25 bands playing more than 100 performances. Niemisto, who is artistic director of the festival, says inspiration for the event came while visiting a similar festival in Austria. "I ... looked out at this small town with a river through it and I thought, 'There's no reason we can't do this in Northfield.'"
Some 15,000 people attended the first Northfield festival in 2006.
