Marino considers 'The Fork and the Shrink'

By David Gonnerman '90

Professor of Philosophy Gordon Marino, curator of St. Olaf's Hong Kierkegaard Library, recently wrote "The Fork and the Shrink" — the cover story for the July/August issue of Humanities magazine. The piece looks at how the observations of Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard (read the article to find out why he was nicknamed "the Fork") and psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud "overlap and supplement one another in ways that make it a sheer pity and our loss when reductionists package their insights as exhibits in the museum of the history of ideas."
