VIDEO NEWS: Students build cave explorer

In addition to their snorkel and SCUBA gear, St. Olaf students participating in January’s Island Biology Interim course in the Bahamas will pack something extra this year — a remotely operated vehicle designed and built by students. The class, taught by Professor of Biology Eric Cole and accompanied by Professor of Art/Art History Mary Griep and her Drawing from Nature in the Bahamas class, will use the robot, dubbed “Meanderthal,” to investigate a 35-foot-deep underwater cave discovered on an island by last year’s Island Biology class.

The student engineers recently tested their prototype ROV in St. Olaf’s Skoglund Pool . . .
