Hagedorn reaches the 'Horizon'

By David Gonnerman '90

"Chick Corea and Gary Burton suddenly have competition," writes the Star Tribune's Tom Surowicz in his review of a new recording by St. Olaf Artist in Residence Dave Hagedorn (at right) and his former student, Dan Cavanagh '01. "There's a new piano and vibes duo in jazz, far less famous yet just as sublime."

The musicians first met in 1997, when they were both new to St. Olaf. "We hit it off right away," says Hagedorn. The new CD, Horizon, is their latest of many collaborations.
