Star Tribune asks Ruby about grant programs

For her story "Aid cuts may close door to college," Star Tribune reporter Jenna Ross asked Kathy Ruby, dean of student financial aid at St. Olaf, for her take on proposed cuts to federal and state grant programs for low-income college students. "It is the students who need the money the most who are going to be hurt the most," Ruby said.

Ross also noted that St. Olaf's pledge to meet the "full financial need" of students, which is uncommon in higher education, caused the college to spend about $400,000 to make up the difference the last time grants were cut.
