Natalie Davis '12 beat out 20 other contestants from around the state June 18 to be named this year’s Miss Minnesota.

Davis, a chemistry major with a concentration in biomedical studies, also won the Community Service Award for her work as an advocate for people with autism spectrum disorder. Inspired by her autistic brother, Davis has spent the past several years speaking to parents, teachers, and community leaders about the complexities of autism. In addition, she founded a social skills program for autistic kids, called Awesome Club, that in three years has grown to include 20 students at two local schools.

As Miss Minnesota, Davis will receive more than $20,000 in scholarship money and awards, and will participate in the Miss America competition in January 2012. The Miss Minnesota Scholarship program is a franchise of the Miss America Scholarship Organization, which in the past year has awarded more than $45 million in scholarships.
