Residence hall renovations begin with Ellingson

Construction workers use a lift to replace windows in Ellingson Hall.

Renovations are in full swing at Ellingson Hall, which will receive a major face-lift this summer and mark the beginning of a series of upgrades to St. Olaf residence halls.

The most noticeable work taking place in Ellingson is the installation of an entirely new window system in each room. The new windows will be more energy-efficient and easier to operate. Additionally, all of the original vinyl floor tiles throughout the building will be removed and replaced with carpet tiles in student rooms and low-maintenance quarry tiles in the corridors. The carpet tiles are hypoallergenic and recyclable, and will be installed with an adhesive-free system.

After these projects are completed, a second phase of construction will focus on re-plumbing and re-finishing the bathrooms.

The college plans to begin renovations on Hoyme Hall next year, with work on other residence halls to follow.
