Star Tribune highlights Gisselman's 'homecoming'

A feature story in the Star Tribune highlights St. Olaf Artist in Residence Gary Gisselman's current production of Oklahoma! at the Bloomington Civic Theatre.

Directing this show is a homecoming of sorts for Gisselman — he directed his first-ever performance there in 1964, and he grew up picking strawberries at his grandparents' farm a few blocks from the current site of the theatre.

Now he's bringing his talents and high standards back to Bloomington. "He's one of the few people who don't say, 'Oh, it's just a musical,'" Anita Ruth, Bloomington's music director, tells the Star Tribune. "He says, 'Wow, it's a musical. What can we bring to this?'"
