St. Olaf Associate Professor of Art John Saurer and two alumni are involved in an art exhibit at St. Lawrence University commemorating the events of September 11, 2001.

The university, located in Canton, New York, is hosting an art exhibit titled Remembering 9/11: Looking Back, Moving Forward. Saurer and Anthony Clune '03 contributed artwork to Re-framing Terrorism, one of the three sections of the exhibit. Jane Becker Nelson '04 is curating the exhibit.

The exhibit aims to highlight contemporary artists who have turned their attention to the terrorist acts of 9/11 and the ongoing global impact of the U.S. response. Re-framing Terrorism brings together artists from Canada, France, Germany, Iraq, and the U.S., many of whom aim to literally "re-frame" the attacks and break reliance on the popular media imagery that shapes the mental images made with the event.

"This exhibition of drawings, prints, photographs, performance, and video allows for an opportunity to remember and reflect, while simultaneously providing a framework for considering what it means to live in a post-9/11 world," says Nelson. The exhibit runs through October 22.
