Professor of Religion and Department Chair Anantanand Rambachan has recently received several honors and awards, each accompanied by a request for the St. Olaf faculty member to deliver an address.

Rambachan's alma mater, the University of the West Indies, selected him for the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws. The University of the West Indies is the oldest, fully regional institution of higher learning in the Commonwealth Caribbean. The accolade will be conferred at the commencement ceremony at the St. Augustine campus in Trinidad on October 27. While in Trinidad, Rambachan will deliver an address to the graduating class.

In addition to that honor, the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary named Rambachan the 2011 Edwards Peacemaking Lecturer. The Edwards Peacemaking Lectureship honors George Edwards, who served Louisville Seminary for 27 years and shared a ministry that was active in efforts for peace and social justice. Rambachan delivered a lecture at the seminary October 20 titled "The Resources and Challenges for Constructing a Hindu Theology of Liberation."

Rambachan's third honor was being named the 2012 Matthew Simpson Lecturer at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. The Matthew Simpson Lecture was established in 1980 to bring speakers of national recognition in the field of religion to Simpson College to speak on issues of importance. Rambachan's lecture, which he will deliver in Iowa in the fall of 2012, will focus on religious pluralism.
