Kathryn Lohre '99 was recently selected to serve as president of the National Council of Churches, an ecumenical consortium that promotes cooperation among Christians in the United States.

Lohre is the first Lutheran to serve as president of the organization, as well as the second-youngest to lead it. She succeeds the Rev. Canon Peg Chemberlin, the first time in the council's history that a woman will follow a woman in the role. Lohre's two-year term as president will begin January 1.

After graduating from St. Olaf, Lohre earned the Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School. From 2005 to 2011 she was the assistant director of the Pluralism Project at Harvard University.
