St. Olaf senior Megan Makeever's latest album of original compositions has received an award of merit in the Global Music Awards competition.

She received the award in the album category for her CD Unstoppable, beating out several well-established artists. "This is a strong affirmation of her budding and important voice," says St. Olaf Band Conductor Timothy Mahr '78, who will work with Makeever on material for her next release as part of an independent study in songwriting this spring.

An ambitious singer/songwriter, Makeever has already released two CDs — Movin' On and Unstoppable — of what she describes as "easy listening/acoustic/soul" music. She wrote all of the music and lyrics on both albums, and hopes to turn her passion for music into a career.

"All of my songs contain a great amount of depth, emotion, and meaning," she says. "Because of that, I feel like people can relate to my experiences."
