Members of the St. Olaf Debate Team include (l–r) Derek Waller '14, Michelle Frank '13, Kevin George '13, Alex Everhart '15, Will Reily '12, and Raffi Triggiano '15.

The St. Olaf Debate Team continued its string of success recently by placing first — against 28 teams representing 12 colleges — at this year's Minnesota Parliamentary Debate State Tournament. The win featured Kevin George '13 and Alex Everhart '15 successfully opposing the resolution "Character matters in presidential elections."

The young team also was honored for being of the highest quality as determined by the cumulative success of all the teams that participated. Additionally, St. Olaf’s debaters secured four of the tournament's "top 10" speaker slots.

Thanks to support from the St. Olaf Administration and student government, the team will send six debaters to the National Parliamentary Debate Tournament at Western Washington University March 21–24. For next season the team hopes to expand its competitive activities to a regional circuit.
