Pianist places first in Schubert competition

Jeremy Krahn '12 recently took first place in the piano portion of the Schubert Club's national Student Scholarship Competition.

A piano performance major at St. Olaf, Krahn prepared four major pieces — including works by Beethoven, Liszt, and Shostakovich — to enter the competition, held in March. Krahn placed second in the same category during his sophomore year, earning a total of $3,500 to fund his ongoing musical education.

Although he sees no end to his piano playing, Krahn plans to pursue a career in arts administration following graduation this May. He will perform alongside the winners of the competition's other instrumental categories April 20 during the Schubert Club Winners Recital at Hamline University.
