The Global Music Awards (GMA) recently honored singer-songwriter Megan Makeever '12 with its annual Humanitarian Award.

The award recognizes musicians dedicated to social justice, humanitarian causes, or environmental issues. In December the GMA presented Makeever, a flute performance major at St. Olaf, with a merit award for her CD Unstoppable, an album of original compositions. Makeever released her debut album, Movin' Out, in 2008.

Makeever's songs illuminate her personal experiences and insights on universal topics like self-esteem and love.
