Associate Professor of Music Christopher Atzinger recently received a $25,000 McKnight Fellowship for Performing Artists through the McKnight Foundation Arts Program.

Atzinger plans to use the grant for two recording projects — one featuring piano works by American composers and the other pieces by Johannes Brahms — and for concerts in the United States and abroad. Atzinger has won medals at numerous international piano competitions for his artistry, including the New Orleans International Piano Competition and the San Antonio International Piano Competition.

Four performing artists, including Atzinger, were awarded McKnight fellowships for 2012–13. St. Olaf Associate Professor of Music Justin Merritt received the same award last year.

The McKnight Foundation provides about $1.7 million in grants each year for outstanding Minnesota artists from all disciplines, including the visual arts, theater, dance, writing, and filmmaking.
