Student entrepreneurs featured in Star Tribune

St. Olaf sophomores (from left) Andrew Sather, Connor Wray, Kilian Wald, and Erik Brust show off the various flavors of JonnyPops available. The frozen gourmet treats are sold locally in the Cage and at Hogan Brothers.

The frozen gourmet treats business founded by four St. Olaf student entrepreneurs is so hot that it was featured in a Star Tribune article this weekend.

Sophomores Andrew Sather, Connor Wray, Kilian Wald, and Erik Brust started JonnyPops, a business that uses locally grown produce to create frozen treats, with the support of an Entrepreneurial Grant from the St. Olaf Center for Experiential Learning. The pops are now sold at seven metro-area farmers markets, and plans are under way to hire 10 more employees and expand the product line.

The students — who are among the handful of Oles each year who test the waters of entrepreneurship before leaving the Hill — have become so successful in their business venture that some of them turned down internship offers for the summer, Wray told the Star Tribune.

"This is going to be bigger than we can manage as a part-time job," he said. "We are all now doing this full time this summer."
