Professor of Philosophy Charles Taliaferro has two new books hitting the shelves this semester.

The Routledge Companion to Theism, which Taliaferro edited, is comprised of 54 essays that delve into the concept of theism. The essays are taken from a variety of different sources, some which venture outside the realm of strictly religious thought and into disciplines such as political science and education.

"The Companion is meant to be a guide for all readers into theism, not only those looking for an aid in their own beliefs, " Taliaferro says of the book, which will be available September 26.

His other book, The Golden Cord, is an original work that mounts a case for Christianity against schools of thought such as materialism and naturalism. It is due out in December.

Taliaferro worked on both books while on sabbatical last year.

"I enjoyed taking the time to write the books while remaining on campus to be with the students," he says.

Taliaferro also wrote an essay that was included in The Hobbit and Philosophy. Barnes & Noble is featuring the book as a part of the company's "All Things Hobbit" collection in anticipation of the forthcoming film series. The book is on shelves now.
