St. Olaf students to host Bob Woodward

Award-winning investigative journalist and nonfiction author Bob Woodward will visit St. Olaf College Wednesday, October 24, to deliver a lecture titled "Presidential Decisions and the Role of Leadership in the 2012 Election."

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the student-run Political Awareness Committee. The lecture will be streamed and archived online, and will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

As a young reporter at the Washington Post, Woodward worked with Carl Bernstein to do much of the original reporting on the Watergate scandal. Their work led to numerous government investigations and the eventual resignation of President Richard Nixon. It also earned the Post the 1973 Pulitzer Prize in Public Service.

Woodward also served as the Post's lead reporter on the September 11th terrorist attacks. His coverage of those events helped the newspaper earn the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting.

He now serves as an associate editor at the Post, where he has worked since 1971.

An accomplished nonfiction author, Woodward has written or co-written 16 national best sellers. Of those books, 12 have been #1 national best sellers — more than any contemporary nonfiction author. Woodward will sign copies of his newest work, The Price of Politics, following his speech.

Past PAC-sponsored speakers at St. Olaf include activist Jesse Jackson, former U.S. Senator Bob Dole, Hotel Rwanda hero Paul Rusesabagina, former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura, Democratic strategist Donna Brazile, Republican strategist Karl Rove, and former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather.
