As the guest on the most recent broadcast of Minnesota Public Radio's "Music With Minnesotans," Ryan Shipley '05 shares how his journey at St. Olaf College — where he arrived planning to major in music and instead found his way to the theatre program — helped shape his vocation.

Shipley, who met MPR host Alison Young when both were speakers at St. Olaf's Making it in the Arts Conference this year, now works as a classroom facilitator for Project Success. The nonprofit organization provides middle school and high school students with the tools they need to set goals and reach them, serving nearly 12,000 young people in both Minneapolis and St. Paul.

During the MPR interview, Shipley notes that one of his St. Olaf professors once gave him a card with the Asha Tyson quote "Your journey has molded you for your greater good and it was exactly what it needed to be. Don't think you've lost time. It took each and every situation you have encountered to bring you to the now. And now is right on time."

Shipley now shares that quote with his Project Success students as they enter high school.

"It really resonated with me," he says. "I'm right where I'm supposed to be."
