The essence of choral music, St. Olaf Choir Conductor Anton Armstrong '78 tells the Eugene, Oregon, Register Guard, "is not five or six people coming together and looking beautiful and being a hit."

"It's how choral music is a transformative experience," he says.

Armstrong spoke with the paper on the eve of the St. Olaf Choir's national tour to the West Coast, which included a performance in Eugene's Hult Center.

"Sometimes people come for entertainment to a concert like this," Armstrong says in the article. "And then something more profound happens. We bring this message of hope. This message of peace. This message of love. We bring it and we offer it as a gift."
