Hofrenning comments on Gov. Pawlenty's political prospects

MAY 30, 2007 — In response to increased talk of Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty's becoming a republican vice presidential candidate, St. Olaf Associate Professor of Political Science Dan Hofrenning told the Star Tribune that a combination of the governor?s "persona as a social and fiscal conservative with personal charisma" should keep him in the running.

Alumnus donates James-Younger Gang images to Northfield
MAY 30, 2007 — "My mother wouldn't have this gruesome collection in our home," says Benjamin Nystuen '57 of the original glass plate negatives of photos taken in the wake of the famously foiled 1876 James-Younger Northfield bank robbery -- a priceless find for the Northfield Historical Society. Nystuen donated the treasure while he was in town for his 50th class reunion at St. Olaf in May.

MAY 29, 2007 — Gabriel Merigala, a dean and professor of philosophy at Madras Christian College in Chennai, India, has spent the past year at St. Olaf as a Kierkegaard Scholar, living in Northfield with his wife and two young children. In gratitude for the experience and opportunities that St. Olaf has offered him, Dr. Merigala wrote an essay of thanks to the college he has come to call home.

Groton receives Hilleboe Award
MAY 27, 2007 — The Division of Student Life at St. Olaf has named Professor of Classics Anne Groton as the recipient of this year's Gertrude Hilleboe Award for Faculty Involvement in Student Life. Groton's nomination cites the many students who have been and continue to be inspired by her teaching.

Schmiesing is a star student-athlete
MAY 23, 2007 — St. Olaf student-athlete Andrew Schmiesing '08 is the subject of a recent article by Star Tribune sports columnist Patrick Reusse. Schmiesing will have a chance to sign with a professional baseball team this summer, but he's also looking forward to a senior season of football as the Oles' standout receiver. On top of all that, writes Reusse, "He's an exceptional student who has followed St. Olaf's recommended track for pre-med."

Bon Appetit honors student-run farm
MAY 22, 2007 — Last week Bon Appetit Management Company, the food service provider for St. Olaf College, recently presented a $3,000 check to the student-run STOGROW farm -- one of only five farms nationwide that received such recognition as part of Bon Appetit's 20th anniversary.

Science Symposium to examine cosmic questions

MAY 2, 2007 — Amy Taylor '96 -- mother, wife, teacher, cancer survivor -- is the subject of a recent Star Tribune story that looks at how Taylor deals with daily life under a shadow. "I have never asked the question 'why?' because I believe that can lead you down a very dangerous road," says Taylor. "I don't want to be self-absorbed. I don't have time to get angry."

Propaganda covered every inch of the St. Olaf campus informing the student body of each candidate's goals, hopes and plans of action. Oles across U.S. volunteer for Day of Service
