Calendar of Peace Days
The Peace Prize Forum welcomed students, faculty, and the public alike on February 18-19, 2000 for the Twelfth Annual Peace Prize Forum, which featured plenary speeches by 1998 Nobel Laureate David Trimble and Denis Haughey for Nobel Laureate John Hume, who could not attend due to illness, as well as other noted speakers. The forum was hosted by St. Olaf College, now celebrating its 125th Anniversary.

The Forum series was created to offer an opportunity for Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, diplomats, scholars, students, and the general public to take part in a dialogue on the underlying causes and manifestations of conflict and war in modern society, and on the dynamics of peacemaking. The forum also strives to make an educational contribution to world peace by providing opportunities for further study of peace issues and by publicly communicating the outcomes and discussions of each forum.

With the development of the internet and the global online community, the Peace Prize Forum has recognized the importance of information technology and electronic communication. Beginning a few short years ago, a web site was introduced to help distribute information and present the Peace Prize Forum. Each year it has expanded the content and role of the site in this information campaign and will continue to innovate and reshape the purpose and function of the site to best serve all participants and peacemakers.

Throughout the Peace Prize Forum this site has increased and expanded coverage of all related events. Now in the days following the Forum, the site has added photographs and audio of different portions of the Forum to help archive events and to continue to promote the ideas presented at the Forum.  Visit the Media section to access audio clips of the Plenary Addresses and other online features.  In the earliest days Co-Chair Susan Bauer launched the information campaign with a Chapel Convocation, Embodying Peace, at St. Olaf College. Her speech is available over RealAudio and a transcript is also available. In addition to this, the site hosts a Discussion Forum, accessible by all interested visitors through a simple registration process. It is an open forum for the presentation of ideas and opinions on Peace and Conflict and worldwide issues relating to this. Please visit this page often for articles, links and other new additions to this site.
