Seeds of Peace
Building Peace in the Middle East One Friend at a Time

Mission Statement
Seeds of Peace is a non-profit, non-political organization created to help future generations from conflict regions learn the skills of making peace. It exists to create a safe place where young people can air their views in a neutral, secure and supportive environment. Our mission is to teach future generations to develop empathy for each other and to help them develop listening, negotiating and other skills required to end the cycles of violence that have plagued their regions.

Though focused primarily on bringing together young people from the Middle East, Seeds of Peace has broadened its reach to other war-torn regions of the world including Cyprus, Bosnia, Serbia, and America's inner cities.

A Training Ground for Peace in The Middle East
Seeds of Peace works to secure peace in the Middle East by bringing together Arab and Israeli teenagers before fear, mistrust and prejudice blind them from seeing the human faces of those they have been taught to hate.

Seeds of Peace begins where international agreements end -- reversing the legacy of hatred by nurturing lasting friendships that become the basis of mutual understanding and respect. By training these youngsters in effective conflict-resolution techniques, Seeds of Peace helps them become the seeds from which an enduring peace will grow.

A Comprehensive Regional Approach
Founded in 1993 by author and journalist John Wallach, Seeds of Peace has intensified its impact each year -- increasing the annual number of participants from 50 to 300 and expanding the regional representation from two to nine nations including Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Qatar and Yemen. More than 1000 Arab and Israeli teenagers have graduated from Seeds of Peace.

Each year 300 outstanding Israeli, Palestinian, Jordanian, Egyptian and other Middle Eastern teenagers are chosen from more than 2000 applicants to participate in the program. Selected by their respective governments without regard to their economic or social background and based solely on their academic performance and leadership ability, they are destined to become the leaders of tomorrow.
