Collaborative Assessment for Liberal Learning (CALL)

The CALL initiative is one of six inter-institutional assessment projects nationwide funded by a three-year grant from the Teagle Foundation. The CALL consortium includes St. Olaf, Carleton, Macalester, and Grinnell, and is focused on four key learning outcomes: critical thinking; effective writing; quantitative reasoning; and global understanding. Assessment instruments that have been piloted at St. Olaf under the auspices of the CALL project include the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) and the Collegiate Learning Assessment Survey of Student Engagement (CLASSE). The CALL initiative also provides a venue for inter-institutional discussion of common learning outcomes, analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of alternative assessment approaches and instruments, cooperative administration of selected assessment instruments, and consideration of assessment findings.
