The St. Olaf Style Guide
The St. Olaf Style Guide addresses many of the frequently asked questions about writing style and some of the most common errors.
Ever been confused about whether it’s the Kings’ Dining Room or the King’s Dining Room? Whether titles of academic courses should be italicized or put in quotes? Whether Commencement should be capitalized? You’re not alone. It’s important to have a consistent writing style across campus publications, and this guide is intended to make sure that everyone writing for or about St. Olaf follows the same guidelines.
In general, this guide looks to The Chicago Manual of Style for guidance on word usage, spelling, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. The dictionary of record is Webster’s New World Dictionary. It should be consulted for spelling, hyphenation, and word breaks.
