Media Relations

The tradition of daily chapel on campus. An alumna and graduation speaker who was among the heroes of 9/11. A 10-year-old baseball fan who joins forces with a literature-loving professor of English — and stumps a crowd with her knowledge of baseball statistics.

All of those stories, and many more, have been published in the local and regional media about St. Olaf College. How did they happen? More often than not, "you" (the faculty and staff members) come to "us," the media relations team, and let us know you have a story worth telling. Other times, we uncover the stories ourselves and pitch them to the press.

Media relations is all about relationships — our relationship with reporters and editors, and our relationship with you. We're here to help you craft an opinion piece for the daily paper, edit a piece you've written that you'd like to submit yourself, interview you for the "news" portion of the St. Olaf web site, or publicize your concert or conference, your lecture or special event.

We think of ourselves as on-campus journalists: St. Olaf is our "beat," you are our sources. Since there are many of you and just a few of us, please stay in touch.
