Comprehensive reappointment reviews
In comprehensive reappointment reviews, normally completed by the end of the second and fourth academic years of a tenure-track appointment, departments are responsible for the student review of teaching component and for peer reviews of teaching. The information below reflects the new criteria and procedures for comprehensive reappointment reviews approved by the St. Olaf faculty and Board of Regents in Spring 2011.
Timeline for conducting a comprehensive reappointment review
This suggested timeline describes the activities to be completed by charis, candidates, and other participants in the review process during the fall and spring semester of the review year
Student reviews of teaching
In comprehensive reappointment reviews, the department administers teaching review questionnaires to a sample of students selected by IR&E. This link provides information to assist departments in this process, including sample questionnaires (updated to reflect the revised Faculty Manual standards), guidance for question development and sampling design, a sampling request form, and practical information about the logistics of questionnaire administration.
Peer reviews of teaching
Comprehensive reappointment reviews include two peer reviews of teaching, one prepared by the department chair and the other prepared by a tenured member of the faculty member’s department or Faculty.
