Summer
School
[Faculty
Handbook Category #2]
St. Olaf College
offers a summer school comprising two 5 ˝ week (28 day) sessions. Faculty/student contact hours for a summer
term approximate faculty/student contact hours per course (37–40) during the
regular semester. Faculty have the
opportunity to teach summer school courses at a salary based on the number of
students in the course, with a set minimum number required for full
salary. Some faculty supervise IS/IR
courses and/or Internships during the summer; they are paid a set fee for
supervising each IS/IR or Internship.
There is a maximum allowable salary faculty may earn teaching summer
school courses. If more members of a
department or program wish to teach in summer school than are needed, department
chairs and program directors determine which of their members will teach. The Registrar’s Office administers summer school.
