1. Leaves for child-rearing shall be available to:
(i) faculty who have completed at least one year of service at the college;
(ii) female and male faculty members; and
(iii) adoptive parents as well as to birth parents.
faculty member who is the parent of a newly born or newly adopted child
(i) one semester leave and a three course teaching load for the remainder of the academic year.† Pay for the year will be two-thirds annual salary; benefits will be adjusted accordingly.
(ii) one semester leave and a four course teaching load for the remainder of the academic year.† Pay for the year will be five-sixths annual salary; benefits will be adjusted accordingly.
A tenured or
tenure-track part‑time faculty member who is the parent of a newly born
or newly adopted child
4. A child-rearing leave should ordinarily commence within six weeks of a birth or adoption.
5. A faculty member who wishes to take a child-rearing leave should submit his/her request at least three months in advance of the beginning of the semester in which the leave will occur (unless circumstances make such notice impossible).
6. Child-rearing leave requested under this policy runs concurrently with any leave provided under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Leave policy for employees who are eligible under that policy and concurrently with any leave taken under the childbearing leave and parental leave policies.
