RE: 2010-11 Tenure-track Searches
Proposals to conduct searches to fill tenure-track positions with a start date of September 1, 2011, should be submitted to me by noon on Monday, November 2, 2009. The proposal must explicitly address
- how the proposed position relates to your department’s long‑range academic plan, including your department’s contributions to the college’s general education program and its support of other departments and interdisciplinary programs;
- significant staffing changes (e.g., retirements) and additional tenure-track requests anticipated over the next 6 years;
- considerations such as enrollment trends or other evidence of student interest, the need for special expertise at the college, and developments within the discipline;
- the case for conducting this search now; and,
- other relevant information such as the likelihood of attracting an especially diverse pool of candidates or the opportunity to make a joint appointment.
Proposals should be limited to three pages. Please consult with your associate dean if you have questions about the preparation of a proposal.
Departments that are authorized to conduct searches during the 2010-11 academic year will be expected to begin working with Bruce King, Assistant to the President for Institutional Diversity, on the marketing and recruitment phase of the search process early next spring.
