Re: 2013-14 Tenure-track Searches
Proposals to conduct searches to fill tenure-track positions with a start date of September 1, 2014 should be submitted to me by noon on Friday, October 26, 2012. The proposal must explicitly address:
- how the proposed position relates to your department's long-range academic plan, including your department's contributions to the college's general education program and its support of other departments and interdisciplinary programs;
- considerations such as evidence of student interest; developments within the discipline; the college's need for faculty with special expertise, diverse perspectives, or international knowledge and experience; plans to reduce the reliance on term faculty; and support for student-faculty research and inquiry;
- significant staffing changes (e.g., retirements) and additional requests for tenure-track searches anticipated over the next 6 years;
- the case for conducting this search during the 2013-14 academic year; and,
- other relevant information such as the likelihood of attracting an especially diverse pool of candidates or the opportunity to make a joint appointment.
