The purpose of the Intended Learning Outcomes Inventory is to provide a simple way for faculty members to map the work students produce in an assignment or exam onto the intended learning outcomes those assignments and exams were designed to develop and demonstrate. It is designed to be used at the same time a faculty member is grading the work, so it is a very efficient way to generate direct assessment data. It can also be adapted for department/program-level assessment; it could be used to analyze a sample of student work compiled from different courses in a department or program.
