Collegiate
Learning Assessment Survey of Student Engagement (CLASSE)
The “Collegiate Learning Assessment of Student Engagement” is a fifteen-minute questionnaire that was designed and piloted at St. Olaf in Spring 2006 to accompany the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA). Its purpose is to examine the dimensions of student educational experience that are most closely related to the learning outcomes measured by the CLA – thinking critically, interpreting data judiciously, solving problems imaginatively, and writing effectively. Items are adapted (with permission) from the National Survey of Student Engagement. The instrument was administered in Spring 2006 to seniors who completed the CLA. Results are being analyzed to determine whether students with different kinds of CLA results also had different kinds of educational experiences at St. Olaf. We expect to share our findings with research staff at both the national Collegiate Learning Assessment project and the National Survey of Student Engagement project.
