St. Olaf College Faculty FTE Spreadsheet Definitions: 2003-04 - current

Note: while this version of the spreadsheet represents a new layout of columns and rows, there have been no definition changes of categories since the 2001-02 revision.

Page 1 of the spreadsheet details the teaching FTE, both according to where facutly teach and according to faculty members' home departments. The first column on page 1 Teaching FTE shows how teaching faculty are distributed by academic programs, while the final column Total Teaching shows how teaching FTE is distributed to home departments. Each column produces the same total after appropriate adjustments have been made. The bottom rows 59-68 on page 1 summarize the non-teaching FTE of the faculty, which is detailed on page 2.

Page 2 begins by repeating the Total Teaching by Home Department column from page 1. The following columns detail non-teaching responsbilities and leave FTE, including the appropriate adjustments to home departments in the "import/export" columns. The sum of these non-instructional FTEs is in the column entitled Total Support & Scholarship (AQ). Total StO Paid (AR) shows the total FTE funded through St. Olaf; Total Ext/Unpaid (AV) shows the total FTE release for externally funded grants/leaves as well as unpaid leaves. The column AW entitled Department Totals, displays the total of all faculty assigned to each department and Faculty, combining both instructional and non-instructional assignments.

The final section of the spreadsheet indicates the type of appointments held by the faculty in each home department: tenured, tenure-track, or short-term.

Definitions of each column and the subtotals follow:
