Tips for a Successful Registration
Registration for Interim/Semester II, 2009-2010
  • To make the process as useful as possible to all, plan to submit your choices as early as possible during the open registration period.
  • Be flexible and include alternate schedules that contain different sections of your desired courses.  One section of a course may close, but others may still be available.  Space is limited in many courses offered
  • Registration passes run vertically (down!) to place all students in one course.  Rank your schedules in order of preference using the arrows.
  • First-year students review the First Year Writing or Religion 121 course descriptions. Submit your section choices at the same time you are submitting other course choices.
  • Transfer students needing to take Religion and/or First Year Writing and not enrolled during semester I, must submit section choices using the SIS web registration process.
  • American Conversations students will see their pre-registered section of AMCON 102 automatically listed in their semester II course schedule.
  • Great Conversation students will see their pre-registered sections of GCON 115 and 116 automatically listed in their Interim and semester II course schedules.
  • Music students should select sections of GE 111 First Year Writing or Religion 121 that will not meet at the same time as your registered Music 112 and 114 courses.
  • Athletes participating in spring semester intercollegiate sports need to consider when their practice times are scheduled and avoid choosing courses that are offered at the same time.
  • Make sure that your schedules are all valid.  A valid schedule contains NONE of the following: time conflicts, repeats of courses you have taken; courses for which you lack pre-requisites; closed courses or courses closed to your class year.
  • Pre-requisites:  The computer looks only at your previous St. Olaf courses in determining if you meet a pre-requisite for a course.
  • If you know that you meet the pre-requisite by some other means (i.e., an AP exam, non-St. Olaf coursework), you can add that course to your schedule.
  • The computer will NOT block your registration because of lack of pre-requisite.  If, however, you really have NOT met the pre-requisite, do NOT try to register for the course!
  • For courses in the highest priority, consider placing them at the top of your schedule list schedules.  If there are multiple sections of the same course theme, make sure to include these other sections in alternate schedule options.
