Greetings from the Academic Advising Center and Registrar’s Office!
We are already planning for your fall registration and we need your help. Please take a few moment and read this information carefully.
In your first year at St. Olaf, you are required to take two courses that will prepare you for other college work. These courses are Religion 121: Bible, Culture and Community (BTS-B) and Writing 111: First Year Writing (FYW).
Students take ONE of these courses in fall semester and wait to register for the other course during spring semester course submission period (in November).
Registration for your remaining fall semester, 2012-2013 courses will take place on Tuesday, September 4 during Week One orientation for new students.
- During July 25 – 31, 2012 you will use the Student Information System (SIS) to submit section choices for Religion 121 OR Writing 111.
- Religion 121 and Writing 111 are two separate courses with each course offering multiple section choices. Each section will be taught by a different instructor and will have a varied theme of study. Students must review section descriptions and submit section preferences using course submission process for registration.
- Detailed instructions on how to use the Student Information System (SIS) web registration system are online at www.stolaf.edu/offices/registrar/FYRegInstruc1213.html
Religion 121 Descriptions (Bible in Culture and Community) Coming Soon!
Writing 111 Descriptions (First Year Writing) Coming Soon!
- The SIS course submission process will open on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 12:00 noon. You may not submit your section choices before July 25th.
- Deadline to submit your Religion 121 or Writing 111 section choices is Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. (CST)
You may submit section choices anytime during July 25-31, 2012. The day and time you submit your section choices does not affect your ability to add a course. All students will be assigned a random registration number by the registration system. Once we close the online course submission process on July 31, we will run Religion 121 /Writing 111 registrations in the random assigned order. Your registration result will be posted to the SIS by August 3, 2012.
- New transfer students needing to complete First Year Writing (FYW) or Biblical Studies (BTS-B) general education course(s) must submit section choices for Writing 111 or Religion 121. Junior transfer students (awarded 15 transfer credits or more) will have both Religion 121 and Writing 111 requirements waived.
- Students accepted into American Conversations will have to take Religion 121 (BTS-B) in their first year. American Conversations 102 (spring semester) will complete First Year Writing (FYW) only. American Con students will be registered into a section of AMCON 101 and use the SIS web registration system to submit section choices for Religion 121.
American Con students not assigned to take Religion 121 in fall semester, DO NOT have to complete the REL/WRIT pre-registraiton process this summer (you will take Religion 121 in spring semester).
- Students accepted into The Great Conversation DO NOT have to submit section choices for Religion 121 Biblical Studies (BTS-B) or Writing 111 First Year Writing (FYW). Completion of the first year in Great Con fulfills both of these two general education courses. Great Con students will be registered into a section of GCON 113 and do not need submit section choices for web registration.
If you have questions about this course submission process, please contact Cheryl LaCroix (lacroix@stolaf.edu, 507-786-6797) or Mary Cisar (cisar@stolaf.edu, 507-786-3434).
