We the people of the St. Olaf Agnostic and Atheist Society define our beliefs as follows:

(Adapted from Murray v. Curlett)

We love each other more than god. We believe that heaven is something for which we should work now – here on earth for all of us together to enjoy.

We believe that rather than getting help through prayer, we must find in oneself the inner conviction, the strength to meet life, to grapple with it, to subdue it and enjoy it.

We believe that only in a knowledge of oneself and a knowledge of one another can we find the understanding that will help to a life of fulfillment.

We seek to know ourselves and each other rather than to know a god. We believe that a hospital should be built instead of a church. We believe that a deed must be done instead of a prayer said. We strive for involvement in life and not escape into death. We want disease conquered, poverty vanquished, war eliminated. We want to understand and love each other.

We want an ethical way of life. We believe that we cannot rely on a god or channel action into prayer nor hope for an end of troubles in a hereafter.

We believe that we are one another's keepers; and are keepers of our own lives; that we are responsible persons and the job is here and the time is now.

The St. Olaf Agnostic and Atheist Society (AAS) strives to represent the unified voice of non-religious Oles.

February 24: Vandalism Report - Several full-color posters promoting AAS in Ellingson Hall disappeared, and three posters (up to 11x17 in size) waiting for AC's posting approval at the front desk was damaged and thrown into the nearby trash can. Given the religious affiliation of the college, we obviously expected some vandalism targeted towards a secular student organization like ours" Koya Kato, the co-president of AAS, commented. "But I was unpleasantly surprised that it happened within hours of putting our very first posters." This act of vandalism has been condemned by several Ellingson JCs as well as our friends of various religous affiliations.
