CONSTITUTION OF THE ASIAN CULTURES ASSOCIATION

Article 1: NAME
Asian Cultures Association (ACA) is the revitalized Sangham, formerly the Asian Students Association prior to the 1997-1998 academic year and the Asian Awareness Association prior to the 2003-2004 school year.

Article 2: STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Asian Cultures Association is a student organization created principally to address the concerns of the community and discuss Asian/Asian-American issues. The primary purposes of ACA are to:
1. Provide an association where students regardless of racial or ethnic background at St. Olaf can meet for friendship and social interaction.
2. Raise cultural awareness by encouraging the celebration of the diverse Asian heritages.
3. Support people who would like to discuss issues pertaining to but not limited to identity, prejudice, etc.

As a service to the larger St. Olaf, Carleton, and Northfield communities, we will share the diverse Asian cultures through cultural celebrations.

Article 3: MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to all members of St. Olaf College, including but not limited to students, faculty, staff and scholars, regardless of their ethnic background.
Only those considered active members will be able to vote. Criteria for voting members include:
1. The individual must attend at least six meetings per semester.
2. Meeting the above requirement is determined by the Honor System.

Article 4: POSITIONS AND POWER
ACA will function with an executive board consisting of any members who participate in the planning and the organization of activities. These positions include:
Co-chairs (2): Heads the weekly meetings as well as the officers meetings.
Treasurer: Handles financial matters of the group and serves on DCC.
Secretary: Records the minutes for the officers and weekly meetings.
Public Relations (PR): Handles on- and off-campus correspondences.
Webmaster/Historian: Updates and maintains the ACA website.

Members of the executive board are expected to reguarly attend meetings and notify the board if they are unable to attend.

Impeachment
At anytime may any member bring up the impeachment of an officer who is not seen as fulfilling their duties. Procedure is as follows: majority vote on whether impeachment procedures should be implemented. If yes, then a warning shall be issued to the accused officer, listing three offenses that the officer has committed, and giving him/her two weeks to get up to par with the rest of the group. Then on the third week, the group will again have a majority vote on whether impeachment shall proceed. If yes, then the officer has the choice of stepping down, or they may make a short defense for him/herself, after which the group would make the vote, this time 2/3 majority. If the officer does not show up for the meeting on the third week, then they will be assumed impeached. Then on the fourth week, reelection will take place for the empty office. All voting procedures for impeachment shall be done by a secret ballot.

Article 5: AMENDMENTS
Amendments will always be permitted, however:
A. Amendments must be on the agenda at least one week prior to the vote
B. Only eligible voting members will be able to make motions and second them.
C. Ratification requires a two-thirds majority vote by present eligible voting members on any issue.

Article 7: EVALUATION OF CONSTITUTION
The ACA officers shall reevaluate this constitution every two years, beginning with the 2001-2002 academic year.
