Why we're important.The St. Olaf chapter of the College Democrats of America has been an active force both here at the college and in the greater Northfield community. Boasting over six hundred enrolled members, our organization is focused on building a community of educated and politically active citizens. We also work tirelessly for the election of Democratic candidates across Minnesota. Highlights of the year thus far include the Minnesota Democratic Candidate Forum at which Oles, Carls, and Northfield residents heard from fourteen 2006 candidates and their representatives. The forum was part of the College Democrats Political Awareness Campaign (CD-PAC), which includes monthly forums with prominent party leaders and weekly current events discussions. The events are open to the public. This year we have also begun to compose, print and distribute “Weekly Briefs” featuring the major political issues of each week. Honest, responsive and effective government depends on political participation. We believe that informing college students is crucial to forming habits of life long political involvement.
