Why is IDEA concerned about AIDS?
AIDS (or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is a pandemic affecting more than 33 million people worldwide. In 2007 over 1.5 million people died from the disease in sub-Saharan Africa alone. While AIDS is significant for obvious medical reasons, it has also seriously slowed economic growth in all of the countries in which it is found.
