What better movie to pop in the VCR than The Silence of the Lambs? This 1991 outing invigorated the suspense/horror genre with its powerful combination of suspense, subtle horror, and its great writing and characters.

Jodie Foster is Clarice Starling, who is training to become an FBI Agent. She's recruited by her boss (Scott Glenn) to attempt to attain information from the dangerous "Hannibal the Cannibal" (Anthony Hopkins) to find a serial killer. It's a spinning and intense thriller with a satisfying, but disturbing, climax to boot.

Lambs is loaded with memorable but disturbing scenes, including the infamous face-ripping and the night-vision climax. But the best sequences are between Hopkins and Foster. Lecter's oozing evil serves as a great contrast to Starling's tough naivete.

The film is only one of three to win the "big five" Oscars: Best Picture, Actor (Hopkins), Actress (Foster), Screenplay and Director. It also deservedly made the American Film Institute's list of the best films of all time.
